Veterans to Farmers: Veteran-owned farm to hold tour and workshop

Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri – November 3, 2014 – The Center for Rural Affairs will offer a Farm Tour for Veterans at Falcon Ridge Farm located near Lynchburg, Mo. on Saturday, November 22 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The free event is open to all service members, Veterans, and their Family members, as well as current farmers that would like to become mentors to new Veteran farmers.

This event is also sponsored by the Sustainable Ozarks Partnership, Lincoln University Cooperative Extension, United Natural Foods Inc. Foundation, and the National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA).
Falcon Ridge Farm is owned and run by Veteran Wendy Lombardi. Lombardi will open the event with a brief welcome and description of her farm. The event will cover crop and livestock production practices for small farms and provide information on organic gardening, agri-forestry, farm pests and sustainable prevention and cures, cow and calf operations, market goat production, rotational grazing and pasture development, and time and energy efficient fencing and water systems.

Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. Seminars and the farm tour will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. There will be time following the formal workshop for networking and questions.
