Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri –March 28, 2018 – On Wednesday, April 11, all members of the media are invited to attend a special media day event on Fort Leonard Wood. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is being coordinated by the Fort Leonard Wood Public Affairs Office.
The Sustainable Ozarks Partnership strongly encourages all media professionals to attend this event, as it will provide them with an opportunity to observe several technologies being demonstrated as part of the Army's campaign of experimentation. These efforts are part of the Army at Fort Leonard Wood's mission of designing, developing and integrating Maneuver Support capabilities and concepts for Maneuver Support forces across Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership Development, Personnel, and Facilities domains.
In addition to its significant mission of training service members from all branches of the Armed Forces, Fort Leonard Wood has the responsibility to deliver Engineer, Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Defense, and Military Police capabilities to the Army that enable mission success across the range of military operations.
“Recently, the Department of Defense initiated a campaign to help bridge the divide between our nation’s citizens and our military (#KnowYourMil). The campaign aims to educate the general public about what it’s really like to serve. The media’s participation in this event will help them understand a unique part of the Army's institutional capability development function and share this information with the general public, as well as help citizens get to know more about the Army at Fort Leonard Wood,” said SOP Executive Director Kent Thomas.
Additionally, the general public is invited to tour the installation the following day on Thursday, April 12. This tour is being coordinated by the local chapter of AUSA, the Committee of 50, Phelps for the Fort, Lake Support the Fort, and Friends of the Fort. Those interested in touring the installation should RSVP to the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce by April 6 at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 573-336-5121.
This community tour will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last until 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided by AUSA during the tour.
