The Sustainable Ozarks Partnership works closely with private and public sector leaders across Missouri, as well as the Missouri Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission and Missouri’s Military Advocate, Harry Roberts. The Office of the Missouri Military Advocate leads the state’s efforts to coordinate state and local actions to preserve and expand Missouri’s military installations and agencies, improve the quality of life and opportunities for service members and their families, and to enhance the state’s defense industries.

With input collected from around the state, the MMPEC created a strategic plan that provides a policy framework and tools for the Governor and General Assembly. In 2016, the Fort Leonard Wood Region was named a Great American Defense Community during an official ceremony on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. The award was presented in conjunction with the Association of Defense Communities 2016 National Summit.

The Great American Defense Communities program was launched in 2016, to acknowledge the unique contributions cities, counties and regions that host installations make to improve quality of life for service members, veterans and their families.

We are proud to be members and strong supporters of the Association of Defense Communities. We appreciate the work they do at the national level to support our nation’s defense communities.
